I've been admitted for the spring semester. Could I be reconsidered for admission or placed on the waitlist for the fall semester?

While we understand that you expected to begin your studies in the fall semester, all of our decisions are final. Your offer of admission is only applicable to Spring 2019 and cannot be reevaluated for another term.

Will there be many others starting in the spring?

Yes, we leave room in our class for new first-year students to begin in January. These students will have their own orientation, just like the students in the fall, so they have the opportunity to meet fellow classmates.

When will I receive my admission packet?

Students will receive their admission packet in mid-June, after your $500 nonrefundable deposit has been made.

How do I accept my admission offer and submit my enrollment deposit?

To secure enrollment, you must visit to accept your offer and submit your deposit by the date indicated on your admission letter. For step-by-step instructions, visit

Will freshman housing be available and when do I apply?

While we are unable to guarantee that students will live in freshman housing, our goal is to accommodate students in our first-year residential areas, or at least with a freshman roommate, based on availability. Applications for spring semester typically go live on November 1.

My Spring 2019 application says "Incomplete" even though I have already paid the deposit. Why?

Your application is labeled as "Incomplete" until we receive your final high school transcripts. Be sure to send these to us immediately after you graduate.

Could I defer my admission?

Please note that you are unable to defer your offer of admission to a later semester.

Could I be considered for scholarships?

Students offered admission in the spring are not considered for merit-based scholarships.

When will I receive my financial aid award?

If you completed the financial aid application process and the University determines you are eligible, you will receive your financial aid award before May 1, pending all documents have been received. 

What can I do during the fall semester?

Students who are admitted for the spring semester use the fall to take courses at a local college, volunteer, or take part in other enriching activities.

If I take college courses in the fall, how do I know if my credits will transfer?

If you would like to pursue this possibility, you should enroll at an accredited institution and begin work in a liberal arts curriculum. Students at two-year colleges are encouraged to follow the Associate of Arts path.

We recommend students familiarize themselves with the Suggested Coursework to Prepare for Transfer. Students should compare the course descriptions of the courses they register for with the course descriptions in our Academic Bulletin. If the descriptions are similar, those courses will likely transfer. A transfer credit evaluation will be conducted after your official transcripts have been submitted.

What should I expect from UM during my time away from the University?

We will email you important information and reminders throughout the summer and fall. It is important that you monitor your email account as well as your CaneLink.

When will I be able to register for courses?

Students will be able to register for courses and speak with their academic advisor beginning in late November.

How will the I-20 process work for international students admitted in the spring?

We will start working on I-20 forms in October.
